These lines are often associated with ageing as they are usually a result of volume loss in the mid face. As we age, we lose fat in our face and our facial bones shrink-that combined with a reduction in skin integrity, i.e. reduced collagen and elastin, causes the face to sag. This creates lines and folds in the lower face. However, some people may present with these lines or folds as a result of weight loss or even sleeping habits.
